Are the schools in St. Johns County really that strong?
St. Johns County School District is consistently among Florida’s highest-performing districts on state measures, which is why families hear the name before they can find the county on a map. That reputation is earned in the aggregate. Zoning still shifts with growth, so confirm the assigned campus for a specific address on the district site instead of trusting a community marketing name.

This is the question that starts more out-of-state searches than any other. The short version is yes: on Florida’s published accountability measures, St. Johns County has spent years at or near the top of the state’s public districts. In July 2026, contemporaneous reporting on Florida Department of Education results said the district returned to the No. 1 spot by total points (910) with an A grade after a year when Nassau County briefly led. Those figures belong to that release. They will move again. Check the current year on the FDOE site and the district site. We do not publish live school grades here.
A district rank is a county-wide average. It is not the classroom your child would walk into. Fast-growing corridors add students faster than buildings, and families on Reddit and in relocation forums talk about overcrowding and teacher hiring in the newest attendance zones even while they praise the overall system. Both can be true. The useful relocator move is to ask about the specific campus: enrollment, portable classrooms, special programs, and how often the boundary has changed.
Community marketing names are not school assignments. Two streets in Nocatee or near World Golf Village can feed different schools. A Ponte Vedra address is not automatically a particular high school. Use the district’s zoning tools for the parcel, then visit at arrival and dismissal if the campus is the reason you are buying. People who skip that step sometimes choose a beautiful street and spend a year on a waitlist or a redraw.
Magnet programs, career academies, and exceptional-student-education services vary. If your child needs something specific — a language program, a support plan, a high-school academy — call the district before you narrow to a village. Private and charter options exist, especially closer to the beaches and the Jacksonville line. We do not rank them. Matching a philosophy and a commute matters more than collecting logos.
Growth is the quiet variable. St. Johns has been one of Florida’s faster-growing counties for years, which is why the district’s reputation and the traffic on CR 210 show up in the same paragraph. New schools open; older campuses shift. A friend who moved in 2019 may be describing a map that no longer matches your listing.
